Stick Selection with Tom Holiday

Every drummer has there stick size.. manufacturer, and size, which is All fine! But how many of you pay attention to the type of wood they are made from?? Let me tell you.... it is truly the most important choice you will make. Sticks are primarily made of HICKORY Which is ok... and many swear by hickory I also used hickory or anything I could find in a 5A or 5B with plastic tip. Until I started paying Attention to my surviving few sticks in my stick bag... and guess what.... one pair was ProMark 5B OAK plastic tip, and the other Were a pair of Maple also plastic tip.. hmmmmm ... I had no idea they made sticks from maple and oak.. both Hardwood it makes sense they would out live hickory from the onslaught of drumming and rim shots and cymbal hits Time and time again! This changed my opinion of picking my sticks, I only purchase ProMark 5A and 5B OAK Plastic tip drum sticks and occasionally find Maple on Amazon These sticks will out live any hickory made stick 10 fold,. And there weight is not much different.. just some food for thought
