Unity In Music

Repetition is an important part of music. Sounds and combinations of sounds are repeated to give unity to music. A composer of music is an artist, as is a good performer. But there are some important differences between music and the other arts, which are intended to be seen.

Music depends upon the ear rather than the eye. It exists only in time, arid in sounds and silences. When you stand in front of a painting, you can study its composition and you can enjoy its effect on you. You can spend as much time as you wish looking at the whole painting, or in studying any part of it. But with music, you must remember what you are hearing in order to understand what the composer is communicating. Music does not stand still, but moves with time.
